Tengrinews.kz – A rare Tian Shan brown bear (Ursus arctos isabellinus) was captured on camera by a wildlife trap in the Altyn-Emel National Park in Zhetysu.
The video shows the bear cautiously exploring the area and "meeting" the camera.
“During regular monitoring conducted in the Altyn-Emel National Park, the camera trap captured the rare Tian Shan brown bear,” the park reported.
Where does the Tian Shan brown bear live?
This species is considered one of the smallest among the brown bears. Male bears typically weigh around 150-200 kg, sometimes even less, compared to other brown bear species whose weight can reach 400-600 kg.

In the park, this is the only type of bear found, and it is listed in the Red Book of endangered species, under state protection.
Although there is no special monitoring of the red-listed predator in the Zhetysu region, this year, two Tian Shan brown bears were recorded.
“The bear inhabits high-altitude areas, particularly in juniper, birch, and spruce forests. It lives at elevations between 2000-3500 meters above sea level, unlike other brown bears that are more commonly found in forested plains or near sea level,” the park added.
