Tengrinews.kz – A photo of a Demoiselle crane taken in the Kolsai Lakes National Park has appeared online.
The bird was spotted and photographed by park inspector Dogaev.
“The Demoiselle crane is a rare species listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan and is under special protection. In recent years, the population of this bird has been increasing,” the national park stated.
The park also reminded that the Demoiselle crane is the smallest member of the crane family, preferring mountainous areas at altitudes up to 3,000 meters with rivers and lakes.
“Each year in September–October, Demoiselle cranes migrate to warmer regions and return back in March–April,” the park's message adds.
By the way, according to the Kolsai Lakes National Park website, its territory covers approximately 161,000 hectares.
