Tengrinews.kz – A new anomaly related to the size of particles in the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS has been detected. This was reported in his blog by Harvard University astronomer Avi Loeb.
“Strictly speaking, 3I/ATLAS is characterized by an anomalous size of the particles that dominate the glow of its jet facing the Sun,” the scientist wrote.
According to him, the anti-tail structure of 3I/ATLAS is dominated by particles larger than typical dust grains, which are usually the most efficient at scattering sunlight.
Earlier, Loeb claimed that the anti-tail of the “alien spacecraft” is a jet of material whose glow stretches from 3I/ATLAS toward the Sun, which is uncharacteristic for comets. He noted that the nature of this phenomenon is still unclear, since normally solar radiation and the solar wind carry dust and gas in the opposite direction. The scientist emphasized that this feature of the object was not discussed at the NASA conference.
The interstellar object 3I/ATLAS was spotted on July 1. Scientists later determined that it is a comet from another stellar system. Its coma (a cloud of gas and dust surrounding the nucleus) is about 24 kilometers in diameter. A computer model showed its approximate age to be more than seven and a half billion years – about three billion years older than the Sun. It may be the oldest comet ever observed.
In September, Avi Loeb reported that the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS, passing through the Solar System, had undergone “anomalous evolution,” beginning to change its color.
In August, the scientist said that 3I/ATLAS emits its own light similar to car headlights, while the source of this glow has not been identified. He suggested that 3I/ATLAS may be an artificial object with a powerful energy source capable of generating light visible from millions of kilometers away.
