Kazakh videographer captures hidden pink lake in Pavlodar Region

Tengrinews.kz – A mesmerizing pink lake in Kazakhstan’s Pavlodar Region has captured the attention of social media users, thanks to a video shot by local videographer Serikbai Zhanibekov.

Zhanibekov shared the striking footage on his Instagram page, showcasing the lake’s unusual pink hue. According to him, the lake is located near the village of Tavolzhan in the Uspen district, about 65 kilometers from Pavlodar city.

The videographer said he visited the site for the first time in early July and was captivated by its beauty and seclusion.

"Very few people know about this place because it’s not visible from the main road. The lake only turns pink for about two months a year," he explained.

A nature enthusiast, Zhanibekov often travels around Kazakhstan filming its landscapes, cities, and historical landmarks. His goal, he says, is to share the country’s natural diversity with a wider audience.

"Kazakhstan has it all – rivers, lakes, mountains, forests, seas, deserts, vast steppes, hills, blooming fields, canyons, caves, cliffs… and many historical sites. It’s amazing," he said.

He hopes more people will discover these serene and lesser-known locations — but urges travelers to treat such places with respect.

"It’s important that growing interest doesn't lead to pollution, noise, or over-tourism. These fragile ecosystems and their peaceful atmosphere must be preserved," he added.

In 2020, a similar pink lake in Kazakhstan suffered environmental damage due to an influx of visitors. Some people even extracted salt from the lake, believing it had healing properties. A year later, the iconic pink lake Kobeytuz began to dry up — a natural process, according to local officials, but one that raised concerns about sustainability.
