Scientists have come to a conclusion that climate changes may have a direct effect on the economic situation in Central Asia, Komsomolskaya pravda writes. According to head of the Climate and Energy program of Russian representative office of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Aleksei Kokorin, the climate will be changing in the world in the coming few decades. Weather-related negative effects will double within 15 years. "Extremeness of the climate can become a reason for an economic crisis. The most damage from global warming in 20-30 years will be caused to the countries in the broad belt from Portugal to Central Asia,” Kokorin said. He noted that in case the current trends of climate extremeness remain, fresh water deficit will become the main problem. Many areas will have normal amount of fallouts, but they are not spead evenly. "For example, Central Asia will have 2 showers instead of 5 small rains. And now imagine: it rains heavily, but irrigation facilities are very old, left from the Soviet time and do not hold the water, so there is no fresh water in the end. The fallouts regime, not the fluctuations of heat and colds, is what alarms the most, I think,” the scientist said. This will result in several economic problems that will cause the next crisis. Kokorin explained that the climate will deteriorate the already shaky economic situation of Central Asian countries. “They will need help, building of water-holding facilities, for example,” he said. Earlier KazHydroMet weather service stated that air temperature in Kazakhstan will increase by 5 degrees in 10 years. According to the weather service, the warming will cause a decrease in fallouts, which may cause drought, degradation of lands and desertisation, which will have a negative effect on the agriculture and people's health.
