Kazakhoil Aktobe reimbursed the state with over 445 million tenge ($3 million) for the environmental damaged caused by excessive gas flaring, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports citing senior assistant of Aktobe oblast prosecutor Lyailya Tashina. "Unscheduled check of Kazakhoil Aktobe revealed excessive gas flaring emissions at land flare unit during wells workover and completion after drilling. According to the calculations, the damage from excessive emissions made 445.2 million tenge," she said. According to her, 420.3 thousand cubic meters of excessive gas was flared. 1.6 million cubic meters of gas was flared at Alibekmola field (while 1.4 million cubic meters is allowed for flaring) and 1.3 million cubic meters of gas was flared at Kozhassai field (while 1.03 million cub.m are allowed for flaring). "The instruction to reimburse the state for the damage was fulfilled by Kazakhoil Aktobe to its fullest: the company was fined for almost 445.2 million tenge," Tazhina added. KazMunaiGas and Caspian Investments Resources Ltd. (joint company of LUKOIL Overseas and Sinopec) are the shareholders of Kazakhoil Aktobe. The company has been working on development and exploitation of Alibekmola and Kozhasai fields (in the west of Aktobe oblast of Kazakhstan) since 1999.
