Tengrinews.kz – A comet will pass at its closest distance to Earth in the coming days, according to the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

This will occur on Tuesday, October 21, when the comet will pass at a distance of about 89 million kilometers from Earth.

Scientists note that the celestial body will not be visible to the naked eye.

“The comet can be detected using relatively inexpensive cameras with good light sensitivity, as well as simple home telescopes. In all cases, good stabilization of the optical device using a tripod will be required,” the statement said.

It is noted that under good basic conditions — being away from large populated areas and on a clear, starry night — it may be possible to try to locate the comet.

The bright star Arcturus can serve as a reference point for observation; however, without experience, finding the object in the sky is extremely difficult. Experts recommend using astronomical applications such as Stellarium or Star Walk 2 for assistance.
