Emergency Situations Department’s experts and police are searching for the origin of the mercury spot in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports. The spill was discovered on the pavement by pedestrians near the corner of a residential building in one of the city’s region late last week, city Emergency Situations Department told Interfax-Kazakhstan. The experts have already collected 3.6 kg of mercury from the area of 1.5 meters. The ground in the spill area was then treated, the Department stated. “Police is currently working on this case. They will find out where the mercury has come from, especially in such a large quantity and why such spills appear systematically. They will talk to the residents of the neighboring buildings, maybe somebody has seen something,” the Department stated.
