Akim (Governor) of Mangystau Oblast Alik Aidarbayev has visited Berik Kulbarakov, the train driver who suffered burns when the train carrying petroleum tanks crashed into an oil tank truck, at the Mangystau Oblast Hospital, reports Tengrinews citing Lada.kz. The Governor instructed Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, Kazakhstan national railway operator, and the oil company related to the accident to help to the train driver Berik Kulbarakov and his family. In spite of his injuries the train driver alerted the emergency services about the accident immediately after the crash. After that he did not looking for his assistant driver until the ambulance team arrived. His colleges consider Berik’s actions to be heroic. When the train flared, the driver and his assistant jumped from the locomotive into the opposite sides of the rails. The assistant of the train driver died in the flames. Director of the Mangystau Oblast Hospital Nurlan Tlepov told the journalists about Berik Kulbarakov’s current state. “The patient is in a burn shock. We are focusing on stabilizing his condition. We are expecting a combustiologist (a doctor specializing in treatment of burns) from the Traumatology Institute in Astana to arrive. Meanwhile, the patient has been put in an induced coma and is currently on a ventilator. He is in a separate specialized ward, equipped with a special bed and other necessary equipment. The state of the patient changes dynamically. Considering the affected areas (the head and the neck), localization of the damage is especially important,” said Tlepov.
