State of emergency declared in Alatau due to large landfill fire

Tengrinews.kz – A local state of emergency of a technogenic nature has been declared in Alatau, Almaty region, following a large fire at a waste disposal site, the city's administration reported.

The fire has spread over a significant area, and the local authorities decided to introduce the emergency measures to mobilize all necessary forces and resources—firefighting units, rescuers, specialized equipment, and to coordinate the efforts of all relevant services.

"The measures taken are aimed at accelerating the efforts to eliminate the consequences. The situation is under constant control. There is no threat to residents' lives. All services are working at an enhanced pace," the administration said.

A special investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire. Residents are urged to remain calm and follow official recommendations.

Firefighters have been battling the blaze for the third day in a row as the region continues to struggle with the effects of the large fire at the solid waste landfill.
