"Furniture caught fire over an area of 5 square meters. Firefighters from the regional center extinguished the blaze in eight minutes. A man born in 1968 was hospitalized with smoke inhalation," the department reported.

The preliminary cause of the fire is suspected to be a short circuit in the phone charger.

"The North Kazakhstan Region Emergency Department warns of the dangers of leaving electronic device chargers unattended for extended periods," the department added.

The regional health department informed that the 56-year-old man was admitted to the city emergency hospital with a diagnosis of "toxic effects of carbon monoxide" and is in extremely critical condition.

"He was urgently admitted to the intensive care unit. Currently, the patient is in a coma and is on a ventilator. All necessary measures are being taken," said the department's press secretary, Gulnar Sailau.
