Tengrinews.kz - A Swiss airplane made an emergency landing at Astana airport, resulting in a Japanese passenger being admitted to intensive care, according to the Astana Health Department.

The 52-year-old Japanese citizen was hospitalized in the ICU after suffering an acute stroke.

"On August 17, an ambulance transported the man from the airport to City Multidisciplinary Hospital No. 2. He is in critical condition," the statement said.

Earlier, after the emergency landing, the Swiss aircraft veered off the runway, leading Astana airport to temporarily suspend flight operations.

According to the airport's press service, at 4:00 PM local time, Swissair flight SWR161 from Tokyo to Zurich, operating on a Boeing 777-300ER (tail number HBJNI), made an emergency landing at Astana airport.

As a result of the emergency landing, several flights at the capital's airport have been delayed.

In response, the Civil Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan announced plans to conduct an unscheduled inspection of Astana airport due to "recent incidents involving aircraft damage."
