There was a fire in Azat shopping mall of Almaty market of construction materials and building supplies, Tengrinews reports citing the Emergency Department of the city.
45 people were evacuated from the 4-floor building on Shevchenko street (at the crossing with Rozybakiev street). STV Channel reported that the fire started on the second floor of the shopping center that had construction supplies warehouses. The fire took an area of approximately 250 square meters. 13 firefighting squads arrived to the shopping center and the police sealed off the surrounding area.
According to witnesses smoke started issuing from the second floor windows of the construction materials shopping center at 10 a.m.
Senior Assist to Fireground Commander Alexander Chistyakov said that they receive the fire alert at 11:08 a.m., stopped the fire from spreading at 11:55 a.m. and extinguished it completely at 12:07 p.m. Unfortunately, the offices and construction supplies warehouses on the second floor could not be saved from fire damage.
The unfortunate sellers who lost their goods in the fire are counting their loses. And it it is to be determined who or what started the fire.
