"Thanks to its foreign policies Kazakhstan has ensured peace at its borders and has powerful allies. But nevertheless, our country must have a strong, well-trained army and dedicated officers," the president said and congratulated the students, alumni and faculty of the National Defense University on the opening of the new building, and said that it would become a center for training of highly qualified military professionals in Kazakhstan.
“The university should prepare intelligent and well-read officers who know languages and military science,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said, opening the new building.
“There will be laboratories for scientific research in the university. There will be doctoral programs. The University will invite teachers from Russia and other countries to share the most advanced international experience,” the President said.
The President called the military university to study the example of similar foreign universities and train not just military professionals, but true leaders.
The National Defense University the only military institution in Central Asia that trains military personnel for strategic, operational and tactical management, and has Master’s and doctoral programs.
The university's training programs include military and public administration, maintenance management, military logistic management, moral-building and legal management and military education management.
Over 1000 officers have graduated from the university since its establishment. They now serve in Kazakhstan's Armed Forces and as part of the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) member-countries' forces.
The Defense University is located near Nazarbayev University in Astana at the area of 20 hectares and include 16 buildings with a total floor area of 107 thousand square meters. So far construction of only 63 thousand square meters has been completed. It includes five academic buildings, administrative building, and a dormitory with 306 apartments.
The academic buildings are equipped with modern educational technologies. There have lecture rooms, computer classes, language classes, conference halls, and even a movie hall for 200 seats.
The university's Simulation Center allows students to exercise in simulated battles.
