Kazakhstan President shared his opinion on modern mobile devices at the meeting with outstanding women of Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports. “Everything if changing these days; the world is changing quickly. What is the children’s favorite toy now? The tablet, iPad. They (children) can spend hours with this device. Of course, it is good that they get information and knowledge. But let’s be honest, there are many negative sides of it, too. There is so much information, so much TV these days... Euronews made a report about a British family recently. The mother decided to switch off the TV-sets, ban cell phones, iPads, etc. And they lived like this for 3 or 4 months. During these months she she found out that she had so much free time that she started a new job, her daughter got into music, the son went into sport. So much free time! It is very harmful and everyone in the world starts to understand that apart from using the tablets, the children have to be taught, they have to read,” the President said. “They say that those who read will anyway manage those who spend their time at computers. A literate person cannot exist without reading. Singapore, Canada, Finland, Korea and the U.S. were rated as the most reading countries last year. These are the developed countries. We have to emphasize this more in Kazakhstan. Strive to knowledge should be stimulated and nurtured since early age to make it a habit. Then people will retain this habit throughout their lives,” Nazarbayev noted. The President stressed that Kazakhstan needs new teaching methods. “Schools insist that parents should raise their children, while parents say that schools are responsible for that. In fact, both families and schools are equally responsible for raising children. The teacher’s role cannot be limited to transfer of knowledge. We need an absolutely different approach to teaching. Teachers have to communicate with students, open something new within them. Their task is to see the potential in every child and help them unleash it. Western universities and schools teach children in such a way that gives them a chance to feel, open something and analyze themselves,” Nazarbayev said. By Renat Tashkinbayev
