Employment of university graduates is low in Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Almaty Akim (Mayor) Akhmetzhan Yessimov as saying at the annual meeting with the citizens. According to him, technical experts are still in demand in Almaty, that's why 98 percent of graduates of technical universities get jobs upon completion of their studies. However the general problem still remains, the Akim emphasized: less than 50 percent of university graduates are employed upon graduation. "We need to work on employment of graduates together with the Education Ministry and make the necessary changes," Akim said. "Having so may unemployed citizens with higher education is not good for us." The meeting with Almaty Akim was attended by around 3 thousand people, including representatives of the President's Administration, Parliament, Education, Culture and Science Ministries, youth organizations and small and medium businesses.
