A 5.1-magnitude earthquake hit 331km east of Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports citing a seismologic research expedition of the Science Commission of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Education and Science. It was felt as a 3-4-magniture earthquake in Almaty. The shocks were registered at 06:55 a.m. (Astana time) on January 15. The epicenter was 5km underground at the territory of China. 3 to 4-magnitude shocks were felt in Ketmen village of Uighur region. No casualties were reported. At the same time Kazakhstan National Data Center reported that the earthquake had the magnitude of 4.6 and the epicenter was 4km underground 293km north-east of Almaty. A 4.8-magnitude earthquake hit Almaty oblast on January 6. The shocks were registered 283km north-east of Almaty. The epicenter was registered at the depth of 10km.
