Tengrinews.kz – A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 struck off the eastern coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on July 20, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre.

Tengrinews.kz – A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 struck off the eastern coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on July 20, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre.

The tremor occurred at 4:49 p.m. local time (12:49 p.m. Astana time) in the Pacific Ocean, approximately 1,641 kilometers east of Komsomolsk-on-Amur (population 275,000) and 136 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (population 187,000).

Residents in both cities reported feeling strong shaking. As of now, there have been no official reports of casualties or structural damage.

The earthquake was followed by a series of aftershocks, with magnitudes starting at 6.0.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami advisory for the Kamchatka Peninsula due to the sequence of seismic events.
