The hearing of witnesses in Azamat Tazhayakov’s case has come to an ended. The defense lawyers did not present any witnesses at the hearing of the obstructing justice in the Boston bombings case, Tengrinews reports citing The Chicago Tribune.
The hearings took one week and during this time the prosecution presented a number of witnesses who testified against Tazhayakov. FBI agent John Walker was the last to testify at the hearing. “I told him Dzhokar's life was effectively over, whether he was still living or going away, his life was effectively over. (…) The defendant's life did not need to be over, " Walked warned Tazhayakov to cooperate.
According to the agent, Tazhayakov and his friend Dias Kadyrbaev testified that they threw away Trasnaev’s backpack and saw the garbage tracked away. The Kazakh students were "immediately and simultaneously" answering Walker’s questions.
Judge Douglas Woodlock told juries not to consider the fact that the defendant chose not to testify. In turn, Tazhayakov’s lawyer Matt Myers added that they “don’t have the burden of proof”. Tazhayakov’s father Amir Ismagulov said that his son was innocent.
“The prosecution did not prove their position at all. Everybody saw the agents changed their answers several times,” Ismagulov said outside the courtroom.
Judge Woodlock set July 16 as the date for closing arguments.
