Tengrinews.kz - A man from Shymkent has been arrested in Almaty Region for allegedly deceiving trusting citizens out of millions of tenge by claiming to collect funds for children's medical treatments.

According to the regional police department, the suspect created an Instagram page under the pretext of raising money for sick children from the Talgar district.

"It was established that the scammer used photos of children suffering from cancer and posted details of a fraudulent bank account. By tracking the movement of funds, we identified the suspect, a resident of Shymkent. So far, about 6,000 transfers have been made to the fraudulent account, totaling over 32 million tenge," the police stated.

An investigation into the fraud has been launched, and the suspect is currently in custody. Authorities are also looking into his possible involvement in similar crimes.
