NY police seek witnesses after toddler shot

The New York Police Department on Tuesday offered a $12,000 reward to witnesses who could help them find the person who shot dead a 16-month old boy in Brooklyn, AFP reports. Antiq Hennis was shot in the head on Sunday night in the Brownsville neighborhood as his dad pushed him in his stroller on his way to his grandparents' house. The unknown gunman fired four shots, two of which hit the stroller. Police have said the 21-year-old father, who has an extensive arrest record and is believed to have been the target, is refusing to answer questions. In reaction to the killing, Mayor Michael Bloomberg hit out at weak gun laws. "The constant flow of illegal guns into our city and into the hands of criminals happens for one reason and one reason alone: it's caused by broken federal gun laws that Washington refuses to fix and broken gun laws in many states, which allow weapons to easily pass into the hands of criminals," he said. Antiq was the 224th person killed in New York this year, of which 129 were shootings, according to statistics from the mayor's office, published Tuesday.
