Tengrinews.kz – A large batch of over 466,000 packs of cigarettes was intercepted by a KNB border patrol unit in Karasu, Zhambyl Region.
According to the NSC, the tobacco products were being smuggled into Kazakhstan without any accompanying documentation, hidden among other cargo. Preliminary estimates place the value of the seized goods at over 233 million tenge.
"The confiscated cargo has been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation," the NSC added.
It is worth noting that on July 1, an amended order came into effect regarding minimum retail prices for cigarettes with or without filters, papirosas, cigarillos, and heated tobacco products. Under the new regulation, the minimum retail price per pack in Kazakhstan is now 920 tenge.
