The Criminal Appeals Board of Western Kazakhstan Oblast has dismissed a motion of Peter Baruch’s lawyer, Tengrinews reports citing Interfax-Kazakhstan.
Peter Baruch, a British oil contractor charged with corruption of minors and making child pornography is going to spent two month in pre-trial jail in Kazakhstan. On February 17, Baruch’s lawyer Khamit Kzhodzhanazarov filed a motion asking to change the pre-trial restriction measure from arrest to release on bail. But the court denied bail to Peter Baruch.
“The regional court has not found any grounds for releasing the foreign national on bail. Considering the seriousness of the criminal action he is charged with, which is punishable by a minimum of 5 years of prison, the court's decision remained unchanged,” the Criminal Appeal Board Chairman Meirambek Nagashibayev said.
Peter Baruch is charged with Corruption of Minors and Production and distribution of child pornography, or engaging minors in pornographic events. Baruch may face 9 years of imprisonment if he is found guilty of both counts.
