A specialized district court of South Kazakhstan Oblast sentenced the 27 y.o. mother who sold four of her children, Tengrinews reports citing Interfax-Kazakhstan.
The resident of Saryagash District sold her 5 y.o daughter for as little as $200 after divorcing from her husband who worked as a shepherd in a village. Later, falling short on money again, the opportunistic woman sold two of her sons earning $200 for the 4 y.o. boy and $260 for the 5 y.o. boy. When one of the boys was returned to her, the mother made a better deal and sold him for the second time to earn $380 more. Her final business transaction was the most successful one. She sold her newborn baby girl $800. The business on sales of children might have continued if it was not for one family that reported the mother.
“The mother and the hospital nurse that helped her find the buyers have been sentenced to 8 years in prison each under the Trafficking of Minors article of the Criminal Code,” the press office of the court informed. Three buyers of the babies received 7 year suspended sentences.
