The amateur photographer's snap shows clearly the profile of the officer seated in the driver's seat and a seemingly naked young woman in his lap. The vehicle's inside light is turned on, illuminating both of their faces.
"We're conducting an investigation regarding the photo that is circulating" on social media, Montreal's police service said on Twitter, asking witnesses to step forward with any additional information.
A police spokesman confirmed to local radio that the policeman in question has been identified and faces disciplinary action, and possibly charges.
The young man who took the photo, meanwhile, told the same radio station that a second policeman was in the back seat of the squad car with another girl.
