Tengrinews.kz - The Financial Monitoring Agency is investigating the case of capital city miners.

"From 2022 to 2024, the suspects organized the operation of a mining farm in the city of Astana under the guise of an engine processing center, consuming energy comparable to the monthly needs of a residential area in a large metropolis," the press service of the Agency reported.

The value of the digital assets mined during this period exceeded 143 million tenge.

During the pre-trial investigation, nearly 1,300 units of mining equipment (ASICs), industrial cooling fans, and a transformer substation were confiscated.

Miners also owe 25.3 million tenge for electricity.

According to the Financial Monitoring Agency, there have already been 7 convictions this year in the sphere of illegal circulation of digital assets, with property obtained through criminal means seized, valued at over 1.2 billion tenge.

In accordance with the law "On Digital Assets," digital mining activities in Kazakhstan are subject to licensing. The issuance and circulation of unsecured digital assets, as well as the operations of such exchanges, can only take place within the territory of the Astana International Financial Center.

Previously, illegal bitcoin miners almost left a Kazakh town without electricity.
