Attorney Carlton F. Bennett filed a lawsuit against Portsmouth police for killing 26-year-old Kirill Denyakin, Hampton Roads reports. The suit seeks $22 million from the city police. Denyakin family's attorney sues police officer Stephen D. Rankin who shot Kirill for extensive force during his duties and negligence during performance of his duties. "Mr. Denyakin had no criminal background," said Carlton F. Bennett. "He was here legally." Ali Sprinkle, an attorney who will represent Rankin in court, did not give any comments on the lawsuit. Rankin, who served 3.5 years in police, was suspended from the job for investigation period. 26-year-old Karaganda citizen Kirill Denyakin was shot by the policeman in Portsmouth on April 23. Denyakin was unarmed, but the police officer Steven Rankin made 11 shots killing him on the spot. Before the tragedy Denyakin had been working as a hotel cook in Portsmouth for 2 years. Kazakhstan Foreign Affairs Ministry sent a protest note to the US in relation to this incident. Members of Bolashak movement passed a letter to the US President Barack Obama calling for a fair investigation into the death of Kirill Denyakin. July 1 Denyakin family's attorney told about intention to sue Portsmouth police. As per initial data, the first hearing is scheduled for the end of July.
