British corruption of minors case hearing in Uralsk postponed for one month

The Uralsk Court has extended the arrest of the British national Peter Baruch accused of corruption of minors in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports citing Interfax-Kazakhstan.


The Uralsk Court has extended the arrest of the British national Peter Baruch accused of corruption of minors in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports citing Interfax-Kazakhstan.

The court has granted a motion of the investigating authorities to postpone the hearings. The prosecutors did not have enough time to complete the investigation and to translate all the criminal case files into English for the detainee to be able to study the documents.

Earlier, it was reported that the case of Peter Baruch, charged with corrupting minors and making child pornography in Kazakhstan, will be transferred to court in mid April. The former Kashagan worker was to be detained until April 10th. But now with the court’s decision, Baruch will remain in jail for one more month until mid May.

Peter Baruch is charged with Production and distribution of child pornography, and engaging minors in pornographic events and with Corruption of minors.

He was arrested on January 14, 2014 after the mother of a 13 y.o. girl filed a complaint against him claiming that the foreigner was taking photos of her naked daughter. The police recovered several hundreds of photos of underage girls from the notebook of the 38 y.o. British national. Baruch attempted to destroy the evidences when he saw the police on his doorstep, but a forensic team was able to recover the files.
