Tengrinews.kz – Footage has emerged showing the dramatic detention of a knife-wielding man at Almaty International Airport.
In the video, a man in a brown T-shirt is seen disarming the attacker, swiftly grabbing the knife from his hands. Taking advantage of the moment, he successfully neutralized the threat before law enforcement officers intervened and detained the suspect.
According to the police, the man in the brown T-shirt was not a security officer but a passerby accompanying someone to the airport.
The attacker has been identified as a 67-year-old resident of Almaty. A criminal case has been initiated.
Earlier, reports stated that the man had taken an airport employee hostage with a knife. The incident occurred on March 7 in the pre-flight security check area.
According to airport officials, at approximately 11:45 AM, the suspect entered the domestic terminal (T1) disguised as a passenger. When aviation security personnel asked him to present his documents, he grabbed a female security officer by the hair and threatened her with a knife.
