Tengrinews.kz – A man in the Mangystau region attempted to set himself on fire in front of police officers at a checkpoint in the village of Beineu, according to Lada.kz.
The incident, captured on video and widely circulated online, occurred after officers stopped the man’s vehicle during routine patrol on a nearby highway for a traffic violation. He was issued an administrative penalty.
Police say that some time later, the same man arrived at the department’s checkpoint, expressing dissatisfaction with the officers’ actions. There, he poured a flammable liquid on himself and tried to ignite it.
Officers intervened immediately and prevented the self-immolation attempt. The man was taken to a medical facility.
A criminal case has been opened, and a pre-trial investigation is underway to establish all circumstances of the incident, the regional police department said.
In a similar case in August, a man set himself on fire near an airline ticket counter at Almaty airport. According to preliminary reports, his actions were linked to a personal conflict with his civil partner.
