16 participants of Zhanaozen clashes have been arrested, Tengrinews.kz reports citing chairman of the Board of Appeal of Mangistau oblast court. “Mangistau oblast court issues sanctions for arrest of 16 people as per the Article 241, part 2 of the Criminal Code, for participation in clashes,” Nurserik Sharipov told journalists on December 24. The investigation is currently in process, he said. He also told about several administrative cases initiated on petty crime charges. Several residents of Zhanaozen and Shetpe were brought to liability for not following legal requests of the law-enforcement authorities. According to the chairman, administrative cases were also initiated for violation of the curfew in Zhanaozen. Some people did not know what they were supposed to do during the curfew, Nurserik Sharipov said.
