Karachaganak Petroleum Operating was fined $50 million, Tengrinews.kz reports from the official briefing in Kazakhstan Supreme Court.
"An inspection showed that the company violated clause 8 of article 5 Density and permissible environmental impact and clauses 1-3 article 69 of Kazakhstan Ecological Code Permit for emissions. On February 21, 2012 special inter-regional economic court of West-Kazakhstan oblast obliged Karachaganak Petroleum Operating to pay a penalty for unauthorized environmental pollution in the amount of 7.5 billion tenge ($50 million)," official representative of Kazakhstan Supreme Court Oksana Peters said at the briefing.
In November 2010 Zhaiyk-Caspian Ecology Department held an inspection in Karachaganak Petroleum Operating for compliance with the ecological legislation. The inspection uncovered that the company discharged 1.9 extra tons of polluting substances.
