Zhauzhurek Myn Bala (1000 Brave Boys), a historical thriller directed by Akan Satayev, has made it into the Oscar long-list in the Best Foreign Film category, Tengrinews.kz reports referring to the official American Film Academy website. 71 films will contest the award in this category. Karen Shakhnazarov’s White Tiger will represent Russia and Nurbek Egen’s Empty House will represent Kyrgyzstan. South Korean Kim Ki-duk's Pieta that won the Golden Lion in Venice has been included into the list as well. The short-list will be announced on January 10, 2013. The awarding ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on February 24. Iran’s movie A Separation won the Best Foreign Film Oscar Award last year. Zhauzhurek Myn Bala (1000 Brave Boys) movie was released in Kazakhstan on May 3, 2012. It earned almost $2 million in the first two week-ends and became the leader of the release. The movie was screened at the Film Market of 65th Cannes Festival on May 17. Canadian 108 Media company purchased rights to Zhauzhurek Myn Bala. Later Tengrinews.kz English reported that Yermek Amanshayev, KazakhFilm Studios president, planned to nominate Zhauzhurek Myn Bala for Golden Globe and Oscar Awards.
