Kazakhstani rock bands see the weekly concerts as the first step towards the revival of rock music in the country.
“Na Vershine Tengri (At the Top of Tengri) is very impotant for the development of rock music industry in Kazakhstan. Weekly concerts are a really good idea (…). We are happy that something like this has started here. There are few musicians who play their own music; for the most part, bands perform cover versions at pubs and similar venues. That is why we support this idea. Give way to rock music in Kazakhstan! (…) We were really working hard to prepare for the performance,” Dmitry Borissov, the frontman of 9 Volt, said. The band even wrote a new song specially for the concert.
Askar Kusainov of Cardinal thanked Tengri FM radio for organizing the concerts and supporting rock culture in Kazakhstan. “Na Vershine Tengri (At the Top of Tengri) inspired our band to prepare a blast performance,” Kusainov said.
The lead singer of Alatau Jam Marina Popva spoke about the benefit of running this big rock project in Kazakhstan in the time when the country's rock culture was generally in the downslide. “We are very happy to participate in the event. It is a very important event for us. Performing at the concert made us work harder (…) We really want to give a quality performance to make the crowd go crazy. We are playing our own songs and we that to be heard. We hope that our performance will be noticed,” the singer said.
Throughout the Fall, rock bands from all over Kazakhstan will gather in Almaty for the biggest series of events in Kazakhstani rock music. Every week different bands and musicians will perform at Event City Hall. The jury will choose bands for the final concert of the season. The winners will perform along with the headliners in December. Former member of Agatha Christie, Russia’s legendary rock band Gleb Samoilov will perform at the final concert of the month on September 28.
