Disney's Cinderella movie has premiered in Kazakhstan's movie theaters on March 6, earlier than around the world, Tengrinews reports citing the head of the chain of Marwin stores Vadim Golenko.
Cinderella will hit the world's screens on March 13. But in Kazakhstan, the early release was a gift to Kazakhstan's women on the eve of International Women's Day celebrated on March 8, Vadim Golenko said. He spoke about it during the pre-show of the movie held on March 5 in Almaty.
Kenneth Branagh known for action films directed the live-action adaptation of the classic fairy tale with exceptional actresses Cate Blanchet (stepmother) and Helena Bonham Carter (Fairy Godmother). The movie had its world premiere on February 13, 2015 in the out of competition section of the 65th Berlin International Film Festival.
The movie tells a story of young Ella, who finds herself at the mercy of her cruel stepmother Lady Tremaine and her jealous stepsisters Anastasia and Drizella, after her beloved father suddenly dies.
Thereafter, her ‘new family’ begins to treat Ella simply as a service girl, and spitefully renames her Cinderella because of her work in the cinders. However, Ella does not lose hope, because even in the most difficult moments of her life she can always find something that helps her feel better. One day she meets a stranger in the forest who claims to be an serviceman at the palace. The young girl cannot even imagine that the stranger is actually the prince himself, and that one day her fairy godmother will change her life for the better.
One of European folk tales, the story of Cinderella or The Little Glass Slipper was published by Giambattista Basile (Pentamerone, 1634), Charles Perrault (Histoires ou contes du temps passé, 1697) and by the Brothers Grimm (Grimms' Fairy Tales, 1812). But most of the children today know Cinderella as twirling blond in a baby blue gown and twinkling glass shoes from Disney adaptations.
The timeless story of tension between goodness and oppression is the third Disney-princess film to be dubbed in Kazakh.
The first one was Princess Merida from Braveheart who sang with the voice of a Kazakhstani singer Makpal Issabekova. The Sleeping Beauty from Maleficent was voiced by Gulnaz Auezbayeva.
The Cinderella's main character was voiced by Shahnazar Kyzykhanova. "We are pleased that once the first film (dubbed in Kazakh) was Cars or Kolіkter (in Kazakh) and now we are working on the 10th project - the Cinderella, which in the Kazakh language sounds like Kulbikesh. Hollywood stars Helena Bonham Carter (fairy godmother) and Cate Blanchett (stepmother) will be speaking Kazakh in the movie," Golenko said.
Kazakhstani actors Kunsulu Shayakhmetova (stepmother), Timur Piyazov (Prince), Saule Turdakhanova (Fairy Godmother) and Azamat Kanapiya (Captain) also worked on the project of dubbing Cinderella under the guidance of Aizhan Zhamshitova.
According to Aizhan Zhamshitova, the most difficult part was not in make a translation, but to convey the feelings of the main characters. "We had to work hard. We duplicate and play the same roles in the Kazakh language. We had to play deep and with feelings. There are scenes where the main actress is crying. We worked hard to make it sound real," the director said.
