Tengrinews.kz – False information is circulating on messengers and social media, claiming that Kazakhstani drivers must urgently replace their licenses by April 10.
The messages claim that anyone with a license expiring within the next three years must renew it before April 10, or risk having to pass a theory exam after that date.
However, police have confirmed that this information is not true.
"No changes have been made to the license renewal procedure. We urge citizens not to fall for misinformation and to rely only on official sources," police said in a statement.
Authorities also reminded the public that knowingly spreading false information can result in criminal liability under Article 274 of Kazakhstan’s Criminal Code.
What is actually required to renew a driver's license?
According to the official procedure, the following documents are needed for renewal:
- An identity document (or its digital equivalent)
- Proof of payment of the state fee
- If the license has already expired: a valid medical certificate is also required
- Importantly, there is no requirement to retake driving theory exams when renewing an expired license.
Police are urging residents to remain vigilant and verify information through official government channels.
