Tengrinews.kz – A massive queue of 1,500 trucks has formed at the key border crossing point, Nur Zholy, between Kazakhstan and China.
The issue is temporary, as reported by the Committee of State Revenues (KGD). In October, during intergovernmental talks in Urumqi, an agreement was reached that China would accept at least 800 trucks per day, with plans to increase this number to 1,000 by the end of the year. In response, Kazakhstan raised the limits in the Electronic Queue System (EQS).
However, from November 8 to 12, the Chinese side accepted only 700-750 trucks per day, creating a backlog on Kazakhstan's side of the border.
The situation was further complicated by work at the nearby Kalzhat-Dulat crossing, where a new inspection complex was being installed. This limited the crossing capacity and redirected part of the truck flow to Nur Zholy, overloading its infrastructure.
To mitigate the queue and balance the truck flow, the KGD temporarily reduced the truck limit for Nur Zholy to 650 vehicles per day starting November 13.
The KGD stressed that the situation is being closely monitored. Active negotiations with the Chinese side are ongoing, and the agreement has led to mutual understanding, with China working to increase the capacity of its border crossings.
