Tengrinews.kz – The container that exploded at the Astana railway station on February 14 originated from the European Union, carrying electrical equipment, according to Deputy Minister of Transport Talgat Lastaev.
"The container arrived from the European Union and was transporting equipment – specifically, a diesel generator. An explosion occurred, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the cause and source of the blast," Lastaev stated at a government briefing.
The powerful explosion, which occurred near the old railway station in the early hours of February 14, was strong enough to be felt by residents in surrounding neighborhoods, with some reports of shattered windows.
According to the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Railways) press service, the explosion was described as a 'pop' that occurred while the cargo container was stationed on the sorting track at Astana station. Initial reports indicate that the container held electrical equipment, including transformers and generators.
Fortunately, there were no casualties, but one person sustained minor cuts on their hand.
The Transport Police Department has launched a criminal investigation under the charge of "Violation of railway traffic safety or operational regulations." Authorities continue to assess the circumstances surrounding the incident.
