Drivers of dirty cars might soon be fined in Karaganda, Tengrinews.kz reports citing head of Karaganda oblast Department of Internal Affairs Kairat Ivadilinov. Administration of the Department applied to Akim (Mayor) of Karaganda Baurzhan Abdishev requesting it to issue a special decree allowing road police officers to fine drivers of dirty cars. “There is no liability for driving dirty vehicles under the current legislation. There is a liability for unreadable number plates only. But there are many dirty cars in the city; this is not good for the city's image. The Akim's decree should impose a liability for drivers of dirty cars,” said Ivadilinov. A dirty car fine was once introduced back in 1996, but it was canceled after two years. Back then the authorities decided that it is a personal choice of a driver to drive a clean car or a dirty one.
