Tengrinews.kz – Residents of Almaty were surprised to see a car stuck in the Malaya Almatinka river after it rolled down a slope near a city park.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle had been in the water since early morning. A note with a phone number was spotted on its windshield.
The car’s owner explained that the incident happened when he forgot to put the vehicle on the handbrake.
"At 5 a.m. I drove the car out of the yard to close the gate and forgot to set the handbrake. It rolled back into the river. Police arrived, the incident was recorded, and I paid the fine. The car has already been retrieved," he said.
Almaty police confirmed the accident, noting that it occurred in Medeu district.
"The driver, who was outside the car, failed to secure the vehicle, which rolled down Kopalnikov Street and hit the metal barrier of the Malaya Almatinka river. No injuries were reported," the department said.
Police in Medeu district are conducting an investigation into the case.
