Tengrinews.kz – On January 3, a massive traffic accident occurred on the Astana-Shchuchinsk highway, in which 95 cars and 20 people were injured. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that 6 criminal and 37 administrative cases had been initiated, and also informed under what article the main investigation is being conducted.
In response to an official request, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that a pre-trial investigation had been launched into the accident under Article 353, Part 1 of the Criminal Code, "Violation of current transport regulations."
"Under Article 345, Part 1 of the Criminal Code, ‘Violation of traffic rules by road users, resulting in negligence causing moderate harm to health,’ 6 cases were initiated. Within the framework of administrative legislation, 37 administrative cases were initiated under Article 610 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, ‘Violation of traffic rules by drivers of vehicles, resulting in harm to human health, damage to vehicles or other property,’" the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported in its response.
As reported by the department, the necessary investigative actions are currently being carried out on the above-mentioned criminal cases, based on the results of which final procedural decisions will be made.
The department did not answer the question about identifying the persons who committed the violations and their region of residence. The Ministry of Internal Affairs also refused to comment on whether the suspects responsible for the incident were detained, citing Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Judging by the footage, a couple of cars collided on the snowy road, then those driving behind them began to crash into them, causing a long chain of mangled cars.

According to QazAvtoZhol, a section of the Astana-Petropavlovsk national highway (kilometers 18–232) was closed at 7:20 AM in the morning due to worsening weather conditions. After the weather conditions improved and the road was cleared at 12:30 PM, traffic towards Shchuchinsk was organized under the escort of police department employees and special equipment.
