Construction of road to Lake Kaindy nearing completion in Almaty Region
Tengrinews.kz — Reconstruction of the road leading to one of the most popular tourist attractions in Almaty Region will be completed this August, citing the Almaty Region akimat.
Until recently, the road to Lake Kaindy remained a rather difficult tourist route in Almaty Region. It was a dirt road with deep washouts, rocky sections and a river ford. After heavy rains, the crossing often became impassable.
Now, according to the akimat, the main work to level the road surface on the difficult mountain section has already been completed. Road workers are currently laying asphalt concrete pavement.
In addition, builders have fully installed all 42 culverts provided for in the project. To date, asphalt has been laid on a 2.5-kilometer section.
The total cost of the project is 2.43 billion tenge. This year, another 1.3749 billion tenge was allocated from the local budget to continue the work.
As a reminder, the construction of the road was reported in April of this year. However, construction of a road to the Kolsai and Kaindy lakes had been discussed as far back as 2020.
At the time, Daniyar Turgambayev, director of the Kolsai Lakes State National Park, told journalists that construction would begin in 2020 and be completed in 2022.
“They plan to complete it by the end of 2022. Twelve kilometers of road, 16 million allocated for design and estimate documentation. The documentation is ready. There will be bridges everywhere, five or six bridges,” Daniyar Turgambayev said.
However, construction of the new 10-kilometer road began only in October 2025.
