Tengrinews.kz – The quality of newly built and repaired roads in the North Kazakhstan Region is now being monitored by a digital platform. The smart system, equipped with artificial intelligence, examines each sample individually and carries out the necessary analysis, according to Channel Seven.
One of the projects currently being monitored is the bypass road on the outskirts of Petropavlovsk. A 30-kilometer section is undergoing medium-scale repairs. On completed sections, specialists collect samples to assess the quality of the road surface. Each sample is assigned a QR code, while its collection point is automatically marked on a digital map. According to engineers, digital technologies have significantly simplified the inspection process.
"Previously, these reports were filled out manually. Now everything is done on an electronic tablet. It's convenient, fully digitized, and eliminates the risk of human error. Another advantage is photo documentation of the site and the sampling process. The exact location where each sample was collected is automatically displayed on the photograph," said Aidar Sadvokasov, an engineer at the National Center for the Quality of Road Assets.
The digital platform ensures complete transparency throughout the inspection process, with all collected samples registered in the database in real time. Specialists say that data manipulation is impossible because the samples delivered to the laboratory are analyzed using AI-powered equipment.
According to the report, one in five road samples collected across the region fails to meet the required standards. As a result, official notices have been issued to government agencies and contractors responsible for the projects. Once repairs are completed, the road sections will undergo another round of inspections.
"Over the past six months, we have tested 440 samples, and about 20 percent have failed to meet the required standards. Notices regarding these deficiencies have been sent to both the customer and the contractor. Only after we verify that the defects have been corrected and the necessary work has been completed is the issue removed from the system," explained Kanat Userbayev, director of the regional branch of the National Center for the Quality of Road Assets.
The region has a total road network of 8,200 kilometers. This year, authorities plan to repair 700 kilometers of roads. Approximately 90 billion tenge has been allocated for the project, the report said.
