Tengrinews.kz - A police vehicle escorting a delegation that included Kazakhstan's Ambassador Yerzhan Kystafin and ambassadors from 11 other countries was hit by a landmine in Pakistan. This was reported by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Aybek Smadiyarov.
The incident occurred on September 22 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, resulting in the injury of three police officers, with one fatality.
"Our ambassador was part of this convoy; neither he nor the other foreign ambassadors were harmed, and they are safe. All ambassadors have returned to Islamabad. They were en route to Swat city to participate in a tourism conference organized by the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce," Smadiyarov stated.
According to the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the incident involved an advanced police vehicle that was detonated by an improvised explosive device. Sources from Geo TV reported that the delegation included ambassadors from Russia, Kazakhstan, Portugal, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Tajikistan, Iran, and others.
DawnNews, a Pakistani outlet, noted that no terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the assault, stating that 'terrorist elements are enemies not only of the country and nation but of all humanity'.
