Tengrinews.kz - Japan is preparing for the powerful typhoon Shanshan, which threatens to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the country, according to Tenki.

The typhoon, moving north towards Kyushu at a speed of 180 km/h, is expected to reach the southern part of Kyushu and possibly make landfall on Thursday. A warning has been issued for Kagoshima prefecture regarding strong winds, high waves, and heavy rainfall.

Disaster Management Minister Yoshifumi Matsumura, has urged residents in the risk zone to prepare for evacuation. Special attention has been given to elderly people, who are advised not to delay evacuation at the slightest threat.

According to Independent, although no damage or injuries from the typhoon have been reported yet, dozens of flights have been canceled, and some railway lines have been suspended. Starting Thursday, many trains in Kyushu will be halted, and similar measures may be implemented in Honshu until Sunday.

Postal and courier services in the Kyushu region have also been suspended, and supermarkets and other stores plan to close earlier than usual. It is forecasted that up to 600 millimeters of rainfall could occur in southern Kyushu within 24 hours.

Residents of Japan are closely monitoring the situation and preparing for possible consequences of the approaching typhoon.

Previously, thousands of people in Japan were ordered to evacuate, and hundreds of flights and trains were canceled as Typhoon Ampil approached Tokyo.
