Kazakhstani trapeze artists Andrey and Aliya Kanakhin have won the second place at the 4th International Festival del Circ Ciutat de Figueres in Spanish Figueras, Tengrinews reports.
The artists presented the You and Me routine that combined acrobatics on pole and aerial acrobatics on slings. The routine was directed by the head of the Kazakh National Cirques Daulet Dosbatyrov.
“We were preparing for six month. I have been working on poles for 15 years. As for Aliya, she worked all her life on slings. We thought of what could possibly surprise the audience. At some point we decided to combine these two genres. No one had done it before us,” Andrey Kanakhin said.
The artists won numerous awards including Ukrainian Kobzov, an award from a Chinese circus as well as the media award.
The annual Cire Castell de Figueres Festival is a highly prestigious circus event in Europe. The 4th edition of the festival gathered over 70 artists from different countries. The Kazakhstani Kanakhin couple lost to Russian and Chinese artists who shared the first place.
