Tengrinews.kz — Vietnam has launched a new pre-arrival notification system for foreign nationals. This was reported by Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
What has changed
The change refers to the Pre-arrival Information (PAI) system for foreign citizens.
The service allows travelers to submit information about their visit to Vietnam online prior to their trip. This data is then pre-screened by the country's immigration authorities.
The initiative is expected to reduce passport control processing times and shorten queues at international airports.
"The new system allows foreign citizens to submit their arrival information to Vietnam online before their journey. Based on the data provided, immigration authorities conduct necessary checks in advance, which helps reduce border control times and minimizes queues at international airports," the Kazakh Foreign Ministry stated.
Where the system is operational
The service is currently operating as a pilot program at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.
Future plans include a phased rollout at airports in Hanoi, Da Nang, Cam Ranh, and Phu Quoc, as well as at other state border checkpoints.
Is filling out the form mandatory?
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that the PAI system is not a mandatory requirement for entry into Vietnam.
Furthermore, the service is not intended for visa applications or processing. Its sole purpose is the preliminary submission of travel information.
Warning for tourists
Foreign citizens are advised to use only the official portal for the Pre-arrival Information (PAI) system.
Travelers are also urged to exercise caution and avoid third-party websites that may impersonate the official resource. The Foreign Ministry reminded that PAI does not replace a visa and does not affect the visa application process.
Notably, foreign tourists traveling to Phu Quoc Island are now required to complete an electronic declaration in advance. The new requirement took effect on June 1, 2024, and applies to all foreign passengers arriving via Phu Quoc International Airport.
