Tengrinews.kz – A recent bird flu outbreak in the United States has sparked concerns among experts that the virus could mutate and potentially spread between humans.
According to the report, the outbreak has devastated entire poultry populations, leading to egg prices more than doubling. Additionally, the virus appears to be evolving, showing signs of adapting to a wider range of species. A new strain was even detected among cattle earlier this month.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that there is currently no evidence of human-to-human transmission. However, at least 68 people in the U.S. have contracted avian flu, and one fatality has been reported. Scientists warn that the more the virus spreads, the higher the risk of it mutating into a form that could easily transmit between humans.
"This is becoming increasingly dangerous and urgent, and the scientific community is sounding the alarm," said Stephen Morrison, head of the Center for Global Health Policy.
Morrison also noted that the transition period and new administration changes under Donald Trump’s presidency are slowing efforts to combat the bird flu outbreak.
The White House has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding its strategy to contain the virus or any additional measures it plans to take.
