Tengrinews.kz – A new volcanic eruption has occurred on the Reykjanes peninsula in Iceland, the country's meteorological service reported. The length of the fissure is currently unknown, according to the Icelandic magazine The Reykjavik Grapevine.

This is the seventh eruption of the volcano since December last year.

At the moment, lava is flowing in the opposite direction from the settlement of Grindavik, located at the foot of the volcano, the publication reports.

But the city has begun evacuating its population again. It is assumed that up to 60 people were in Grindavik at the time of the eruption.

The city's population was evacuated a year ago due to a strong earthquake, which destroyed part of the town. Residents were allowed to return on October 21.

The volcano on the peninsula last erupted on August 22.

In early November, six people have died and thousands were injured when a volcano erupted in Indonesia.
