Tengrinews.kz - The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested a suspect for attempting to commit a mass terrorist attack against the Israeli consulate in New York, according to The Times of Israel.
The Israeli newspaper cites information from the diplomatic mission in its article.
The man reportedly lived in Virginia. According to the criminal case, he gave instructions to an FBI informant to carry out the attack.
According to the complaint filed in federal court in Virginia, the suspect ran several social media accounts that supported ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and Hamas, and called for violence against Jews.
Local police were led to his trail after receiving information about a social media account named X. He was then contacted by an undercover FBI agent via social media and secure messaging apps. These conversations took place last month and this month.
The outlet explained that the man gave the informant instructions on how to join ISIS and shared jihadist propaganda. He also encouraged the informant to carry out the attack by providing instructions on how to create a "martyr video," the complaint states.
"The suspect sent the informant bomb-making instructions and told the informant, who said he was in New York, to target a building representing Jews, later settling on the Israeli consulate," the report states.
Israeli Consul General in New York Ofir Akunis thanked American security services for preventing the attack.
“This attempted attack by terror organizations is an attack on the sovereign soil of the State of Israel in its entirety. It’s proof that terror knows no boundaries and that we must fight it everywhere and every time,” Akunis said in a commentary for the newspaper.
